CallTrackingMetrics prides itself on being able to track just about any source you can imagine, online and off, helping our clients maximize their ROI by providing them in depth and advanced metrics on the calls that are driving in sales.
To set up your tracking sources go to your numbers tab> Tracking Sources>Add Source. From here you will be able to customize your tracking source to your specification.
We use a scripting code called regular expression to identify each source, unless it’s offline tracking in which case no coding is necessary. This code will be used to track and define the website visitor by either the referring URL or by the landing URL. Within our system we have quick source setups, these sources already have the regular expression added so all you need to do is select the source from the drop down requiring little to no additional coding. These sources include:
Setting up Offline Tracking
Offline call tracking is commonly used for tracking sources like TV ads, radio ads, business cards, billboards, signs, print ads, flyers etc. The setup for offline tracking is very simplistic, all you would do is:
- purchase your tracking number
- assign the receiving number (the number you want to ring)
- create new tracking source
You’ll want to name the new tracking source with an easily identifiable name for example is Greg’s Business Card or WPOT radio ad and assign that tracking source to your tracking number. In your source setup be sure to select your source type as offline and save your tracking source. At this point your tracking it all set up, you would simply hard code the tracking number to the business card and include it in your radio ads.
*One thing to note with offline tracking is that its in your best interest to set your billing to auto recharge. If you account falls into the negatives and someone calls your tracking number the number will not be forwarded to your receiving number. It’s also in our best practices to have a backup credit card on file for extra security.
Our online tracking works by dynamically swapping out the number on your website which we refer to as the Target number with your tracking number. We are able to accomplish this with our tracking code which will need to be inserted into all pages on your website where you’d like the numbers to swap. For example you have have two visitor on your website at the same time each coming from a different referring site, one from google organic and one from google AdWords. Both visitors would see different phone number on the page, the number they see will be defined by their tracking source which in this case is google organic and google AdWords. Naturally the numbers will only swap for the sources you have tracking numbers assigned to.
